About BoardGameMovie.com

BoardGameMovie.com is a fan site for people who love board game movie themes, TV shows, and film genres at the table. Mike Peterson runs it and has spent years welcoming newcomers to the hobby.

A great game night often starts with: “Wait, there’s a game of that?”

Most people don’t start with heavy strategy games. They start with a story they already love, maybe a galaxy, a wizarding school, or a jungle that comes alive. Our movie board games guides start there and explain each game in plain English, so you can choose one and play it this week.

Start with a franchise you love, then climb the Geek Level ladder.

We follow a published method for everything on the site. The editorial policy explains our sources and how we correct mistakes. The contact page shows you how to get in touch.

What we’re here to do

We want to keep growing a shared gaming movement online and, in time, in more countries.

  • An amplifier, not a business

BoardGameMovie.com isn’t run for profit. It’s here to amplify gaming culture and help more people discover the fun of playing together.

  • A growing community

The goal is to grow this movement across the internet and potentially across several countries, one game night at a time.

  • All experience levels welcome

If you’ve never rolled a die or you run your own campaigns, there’s a page here for you and another game to try.

Why we called it BoardGameMovie

The name follows the path many people take into the hobby.

  1. It starts with a favorite film

Many people first get excited about games through the movies, shows, and genres they already love.

  2. Then the mechanics click

A game set in a familiar world can teach the basics of board games: turns, dice, cards, and scoring.

  3. Then the geek level goes up

From there, players move on to deeper, more complex games. We call it leveling up your geekiness, and our Geek Level rating tracks it.

Mike Peterson is behind every page. He’s spent years running gaming communities, game nights, and convention spaces. He wrote about how it all started.

Meet the owner, Mike Peterson

In Mike’s own words, from his author profile:

My role-playing journey began when I was five, after my dad introduced me to the basic idea of Dungeons & Dragons.

I was always the mage. The spell mechanics were far more intense than anything else at the table.

That’s when I realized the community was great fun, but Dungeons & Dragons was too complex for most newcomers.

I later partnered with Comic Con and became a kind of gateway for everyday fans becoming part-time or full-time geeks.

Domains change hands, and names come with history. Here’s what we know about this one, plus how to reach us with questions about the site.

Mike was always the mage. What role do you take at the table?

A note about this domain

This domain has a history, and we’d rather be upfront about it.

Start with a franchise you love, then climb the Geek Level ladder.

What came before. From about 2009 to 2019, this domain hosted the promotional site for the documentary Going Cardboard: A Board Game Documentary. Later, it was parked.

Who runs the site now. BoardGameMovie.com is now under new ownership, with no connection to that project or the people behind it. We chose the name because it fits what the site does.
