Disney Board Games: Villainous, Lorcana and Licensed Classics

Disney board games cover a lot of ground, from the Villainous strategy games to Lorcana cards, plus Disney editions of Monopoly, Codenames, Dixit and UNO and games for young Disney Princess fans. Each game below lists its players, age and play time. The Villainous guide shows which villains come in each box.

  • 13 games
  • 1997 to 2023
  • 2 to 10+ players
  • 5 classic editions

So many villains, so little table space. Choose a game below, and I’ll help narrow the field.

Disney licenses its characters for two kinds of games: complete games built around them, like Villainous, and classics given Disney art. This page sorts them into separate groups, so you can spot a strategy game or a themed Monopoly at a glance. For a darker fantasy tone, head to the wider fantasy board games hub.

New to Villainous? Introduction to Evil is a standalone set for beginners.

Start here: three Disney board games for different groups

Need a game for 8 people? Codenames: Disney Family Edition plays up to 8.

The card games start with the Villainous family and Lorcana, then cover party games, a long card game and family classics. The Disney Villainous board game is the natural reference point: each expansion builds on its turn structure. Check the player counts and ages on each card; they vary widely.

  • 2+ players

Ravensburger's Disney trading card game comes with booster packs and separate decks, not a board. It takes place in the invented realm of Lorcana.

How it plays

Build a deck of at least 60 cards, then add cards to your inkwell to pay for characters, actions and items. Send characters to quest for lore or challenge rivals. The first player to reach 20 lore wins.

The film or show connection

Characters, items and songs from many Disney and Pixar films appear, but the game doesn't retell any one film.

The film or show connection

Cards show Disney and Pixar characters, locations and items on one side, with words on the other. No single film gets retold.

Disney board game timeline, 1985 to 2025

Disney licensing began with party games and now includes strategy games and trading cards.

New to Villainous? Introduction to Evil is a standalone set for beginners.

Villainous has grown to ten boxes, so it gets its own map. The guide below lists each box, its villains and whether it stands alone. For a gentler start, Disney Villainous: Introduction to Evil is a standalone set for 2 to 4 players, with four familiar villains.

Disney Villainous expansion guide: villains in each box

Ravensburger calls its multi-villain boxes expandalones. Each can be played alone or mixed with another Disney Villainous set.

  • The Worst Takes It All (2018)

The base game for 2 to 6 players features Maleficent, Ursula, Jafar, Captain Hook, Prince John and the Queen of Hearts. It’s complete on its own.

  • Wicked to the Core (2019)

Hades, Dr. Facilier and the Evil Queen. Play solo or combine this set with another Disney set.

  • Evil Comes Prepared (2019)

Scar, Yzma and Ratigan, villains from The Lion King, The Emperor's New Groove and The Great Mouse Detective.

  • Perfectly Wretched (2020)

Cruella de Vil, Mother Gothel and Pete. It follows the same expandalone rules as the other three-villain boxes.

  • Despicable Plots (2021)

Gaston, the Horned King and Lady Tremaine, Cinderella's wicked stepmother.

  • Bigger and Badder (2022)

Syndrome, Lotso and Madam Mim bring two Pixar villains into the mix.

  • Introduction to Evil (2023)

A standalone starter set for 2 to 4 players, featuring Maleficent, Captain Hook, Ursula and Prince John. A limited Disney100 edition is also available.

  • Filled with Fright (2023)

A single-villain expansion starring Oogie Boogie, who must defeat Jack Skellington. You need a Disney Villainous game to play.

  • Sugar and Spite (2024)

King Candy and Shere Khan feature in this two-villain expandalone.

  • Treacherous Tides (2025)

Davy Jones and Tamatoa feature in this two-villain expandalone.

  • Other Villainous universes

Marvel Villainous and Star Wars Villainous use the same system. Find Marvel's on the Marvel board games page, and Star Wars has its own page.

Beyond Villainous, most Disney games here put new art on familiar games. They’re easy to teach, though editions vary in tokens, cards and special powers. The Monopoly Disney Villains Edition shows how much a re-skin can change: it adds character powers to the standard rules.

Lorcana uses cards only. For games with a board, browse the board game cards.

Disney Monopoly, Trivial Pursuit, UNO and Yahtzee editions

Disney licenses its characters for classic games, so plenty of editions exist beyond the card games above.

  • Monopoly: Disney edition

Hasbro's Disney Villains Edition (2020) and Frozen 2 Edition both seat 2 to 6 players, ages 8+. Wikipedia's licensed Monopoly list also includes a Mickey Mouse 75th Anniversary Edition.

  • Disney Trivial Pursuit

Wikipedia's list includes Walt Disney Family Edition (1985), Featuring the Magic of Disney (1986), Disney Animated Picture (2002), Disney Edition (2005) and Disney For All (2011).

  • Disney UNO

Mattel has released several Disney decks, including DTD31 with Mickey Mouse rule cards, Disney Parks, Frozen II and Disney 100.

  • Disney Yahtzee

The Op sells themed editions including Stitch (2 to 10 players, ages 6+), Hocus Pocus, Pirates of the Caribbean and Nightmare Before Christmas.

  • Disney Codenames and Dixit

Codenames: Disney Family Edition (2017) is for 2 to 8 players. Dixit: Disney Edition (2023) includes 84 cards and plays with 3 to 6.

Tim Burton's film is the one Disney title with enough licensed games to fill its own page. If you want Jack and Oogie Boogie on the table, the Nightmare Before Christmas board game page compares Monopoly, Clue, Operation and the card games, and the Oogie Boogie Villainous expansion is already covered in the guide above.

The Nightmare Before Christmas has a page of its own.

Tim Burton's film has more licensed games than most Disney titles, so we cover those games separately.

The three-villain boxes work on their own or with other Disney sets.

Where to find them. We cover Monopoly, Clue, Operation, Yahtzee, Trivial Pursuit, Munchkin, Making Christmas and Take Over the Holidays on our Nightmare Before Christmas board games page.

In Villainous. Oogie Boogie appears in the Filled with Fright expansion, covered in the Villainous guide above.

Disney board game facts, from Villainous sales to Lorcana sets

Need a game for 8 people? Codenames: Disney Family Edition plays up to 8.

Questions about specific editions often come up for Monopoly, UNO and Trivial Pursuit, since Disney has released many versions of each. If a version’s details couldn’t be confirmed, the answer says so. For quizzes beyond Disney, visit our movie trivia games hub.
