Geek Level 4 ("Owns the soundtrack"): collectors may enjoy the film details, though the rules call for only a little Jumanji knowledge.

A quick look at one round of the Jumanji replica game

The rules below come from the notice for product NN3531. The excerpt doesn’t list every space or card effect.

For the original feel, look for the 1995 game or the 2017 reissue.

  1. Step 1:

Setup: Lift the central dome, shuffle the Jumanji cards face down in the middle, and place the Life cards beside the board. Each player gets 3 Life cards.

  2. Step 2:

The most adventurous player goes first and places a totem in one of the four jungle corners. The others choose totems and paths clockwise.

  3. Step 3:

At the start of a turn, take the Jumanji die and both six-sided dice. Roll the Jumanji die unless a Hunter or Jungle token has trapped you.

  4. Step 4:

Follow the space you land on: Power Up draws a Life card, Journey moves you by the dice total, Jumanji draws a card, and Challenge sets a movement target.

  5. Step 5:

For a Jumanji card, roll both dice and compare the total with the number at the top. A higher roll moves you forward, a lower one sends you back, and a tie leaves you in place.

  6. Step 6:

You can discard a Life card or Spear token during your turn. Losing to a Hunter costs you a Life card.

  7. 7Step 7:

Stay on your path. Land on an occupied space and you go back one space. Roll a double and your turn ends, but you get another.

  8. 8Step 8:

The first player to reach the center by exact count and shout Jumanji wins. Jumanji wins if all players are out of Life cards or trapped.

The replica doesn’t use the 1995 toy’s timer and decoder. Its instruction notice describes a race with a special Jumanji die, Life cards and four kinds of board spaces. If you know the Milton Bradley version, expect a different game: players race each other, and the jungle can beat everyone.

How the Jumanji board game replica rules work

Setup

  1. Lift the central Jumanji dome off the board.

  2. Shuffle the Jumanji cards and place them face down in the middle of the board.

  3. Shuffle the Life cards, place them beside the board, and deal 3 to each player. Players may look at their cards.

  4. The most adventurous player goes first and places a totem in one of the four jungle corners.

  5. The other players choose totems and paths in clockwise order.

Turn by turn

  • Starting a turn

Take the Jumanji die and both six-sided dice. Roll the Jumanji die unless a Hunter or Jungle token has trapped you. The notice says it determines which event applies, but its full list of faces wasn’t available.

  • Power Up and Journey spaces

On a Power Up space, draw one Life card, up to a hand limit of 3. On a Journey space, roll both six-sided dice and move their total.

  • Jumanji spaces and cards

On a Jumanji space, draw a card. If the draw pile is empty, shuffle the discard pile to make a new one. Roll both dice and compare the total with the number at the top of the card. If your roll is higher, move forward by that number. If it’s lower, move back; on a tie, stay put.

  • Challenge spaces

The two dice set a movement target. Players roll clockwise, and the first to roll higher than the target moves that many spaces. If nobody beats it, the current player moves that amount. A tie doesn’t win.

  • Hunters and traps

Jungle and Hunter traps keep a player there until they meet the release condition. Losing to a Hunter costs a Life card, discarded without its effect.

End of the game and scoring

There’s no scoring. The first player to reach the center by exact count and shout Jumanji wins. If every player is out of Life cards or trapped in the jungle, Jumanji wins and the game ends. Overshoot the center with a pawn, and it bounces back.

Key rules

  • Stick to your path

Don’t change direction, move the full amount shown, and don’t share spaces. If you land on an occupied space, go back to the previous space.

  • Life cards

Hold at most 3. Discard extra cards without their effect. On your turn, you may discard 1 Life card and 1 Spear token whenever you like.

  • Doubles

Roll a double, and your turn ends and you get another one, starting from the first step again.

Tips for your first game

  • Save your Life cards early. Jumanji wins if every player runs out.
  • Count the spaces to the center first. You need an exact count to win.
  • Remember to take off the central dome before setup.
  • For spaces and cards not covered here, read the full notice in the box.

For the display shelf, the Noble Collection replica copies the film's board.

Noble calls it a full-scale replica of the Jumanji game, while Wikipedia’s film article describes it as based on the original board game. For a straightforward comparison of every Jumanji product, see the Jumanji board game overview.

The replica and the film behind it

Check the age on the box: listings for wooden editions disagree between 6+ and 8+.

The game

  • Design and release

The Noble Collection lists the replica as product NN3531. Its product page gives no release year. The notice file is dated February 2020, but that’s the file date, not a release date.

  • Editions and reprints

Noble also sells a smaller Mini Prop Electronic Board, a display piece with no gameplay. It’s separate from the Spin Master and Cardinal toys, which use different rules.

The film or series it covers

The 1995 film Jumanji. Wikipedia says the Noble Collection's Collector's Replica is based on the original board game, and the box evokes the film board. Noble's own page doesn’t name a film.

In the film, the game is an aged, hinged wooden box that opens to a jungle-decorated board with animal totems and a glass-like central orb. The replica recreates that look in ABS composite and measures about 16 x 11 x 4 inches closed, with sculpted totems. It’s unconfirmed whether the orb is reproduced.
